The
Setting |
The
views
from the Villa are breathtaking, both of San Gimignano and of the
surrounding countryside – on clear days with a view of the 5 pinnacles
of Carrara, all the way past Lucca to the Apennines. In a series of
undiscovered valleys, hills roll away, collating meadows, forests,
vineyards and olive groves with hill top farmhouses, and villages,
dominated by the silhouettes of San Gimignano's famous towers. In the
morning light you can see every detail and window of San Gimignano and
in the evening this amazing town displays its proud silhouettes striving
towards the sunset above the background hills.
For good reasons this
most famous of Italian medieval towns has been called "The first
Manhattan". |

Villa Clarentis was originally a large fortified tower that guarded the
pilgrims on their way to Rome. Later it became a defense and signaling tower,
situated in what was in the turbulent 1500 Century a strategic position for the
defense of San Gimignano against Siena and Florence. |
